Smilegate Investment Broadens New Deal Investments, Bets on "Fabless" Startup, SolidVue

Smilegate Investment is expanding its footprint in New Deal investments, showcasing momentum in executing the investment funds set up at the end of last year. According to the venture capital (VC) industry on the 1st, Smilegate Investment has invested 2 billion KRW in the fabless startup, SolidVue, along with Quad Ventures and Quantum Ventures.

Founded in 2020, SolidVue specializes in designing System-on-Chip (SoC) semiconductor solutions required for creating LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors. It was established through the collaboration of Choi Jaehyeok and Chun Jung-hoon, professors of Semiconductor Systems Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University, and Kim Seong-jin, a professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology). LiDAR technology acquires three-dimensional spatial information by measuring the time taken for laser beams, reflected by objects using high-power pulse lasers, to return. It has recently gained prominence as a core technology for autonomous vehicles.

A representative from Smilegate Investment stated, "We hope that promising companies in the New Deal sector will leverage our investment and mentoring to drive digital transformation while contributing to creating high-quality jobs, serving as the driving force behind economic stimulus."
